[A-List] Re: Mark Jones
Mark Jones was a treasure, a rarity among rarities: a Marxist intellectual
of working class origin, his perspective honed by a wealth of real-life
experience, uncompromised by bourgeois academia or any such traps. (Traps I
know all too well.) His words, his analyses, were worth the words and
analyses of a thousand charlatan "leftists" entrenched in the universities
-- and it was a _sheer pleasure_ to learn from Mark. His extraordinary
erudition, his literary gifts, his daring insights, his undogmatic
perspective, his unrelenting fervor, his human and all-too-human sides --
Mark was and remains inimitable. Even for those of us who never met Mark in
the flesh, losing him is staggering, and will momentarily stop us in our
tracks.
Be well, my friend, be well. You are sorely missed.
John Gulick
