Re: [A-List] Regime gone but war not over

Well, has the regime "gone"? There has no surrender by any government
figure nor by any orgainzed units of the Iraqi Army who have simply melted
into the population with their weapons. There are stories that he must have
fled with the Russians, or gone to Syria, Iran, done a deal with the
Americans who paid his cheques in the furst place, but no ones knows where
he or any of the other senior government is nor the commanders of the army,
its officers corps most if its men.

Any one of the above theories is possible. But it is also still possible
that Hussein has gone underground for now with may of his forces and now
that they have the US soldiers occupying the city, can begin a resistance.
Who knows. But whether he us in or out of the country, that regime remains
the legitimate government of Iraq and it would be easy and very embarrassing
to the US, to establish a government - in - exile, or underground.

It will be very interesting to see what is going to happen because if I was
a US officer Iwould be worried if I just wasnt quite sure the enemy army had
gotten too. Disintegrated into thousands of brkoen fragments? Maybe, Or
maybe they are still organized, but retreated for now, preparing for
something else
