22 ANTI-WAR ACTIVISTS ARRESTED AT FEDERAL BUILDING PROTEST

SACRAMENTO ? Twenty-two peace activists opposed to a war in Iraq were
arrested at about 12:45 p.m. Friday during a demonstration at the front
doors of the Federal Building here.

A crowd of about 100 demonstrators participated in the protest, which began
about noon. Federal Protection Services officers said the 22 will be
processed for violation of a federal misdemeanor code, and released later
Friday.

Earlier Friday, more than 60 peace advocates were arrested at the Pacific
Stock Exchange in San Francisco. One of those arrested was the former
President and CEO of the Pacific Stock Exchange.

This weekend begins a national campaign of non-violent civil disobedience in
a last-ditch call for peace in Iraq. Non-violent direct actions will
continue throughout the week in Washington D.C., and take place at
Congressional offices throughout the country. More than 5,000 people have
pledged to engage in nonviolent civil disobedience in order to prevent or
halt the death and destruction that U.S. military action will bring to the
people of Iraq, according to Iraq Pledge of Resistance.

"As a veteran who volunteered to serve during the Vietnam war, I appeal to
all citizens of conscience to recognize and take action to prevent this
crime against peace by the U.S. in its planning for an unjustified
pre-emptive attack on Iraq," said Pat Driscoll, for Sacramento Veterans for
Peace, and one of those arrested Friday.
