Re: [A-List] FYI: Background on Iraq's MilitaryCapabilities
That remains to be seen. Different motivations? Such as? Both defending
their homeland? And a terrain constructed out of wreckage was exactly what
Stalingrad was. Otherwise just a city on an open plain. Seems to me the
analog is apt.

Subject: RE: [A-List] FYI: Background on Iraq's MilitaryCapabilities
I don't really want to get drawn further into a whole thread about
military doctrine, complete with speculation about Stalingrad in
Baghdad, etc. I'm starting to have funny dreams.
I'll point out that Stalingrad was defended by different people with
different motivations in a different time under different circumstances,
and aside from terrain constructed out of urban wreckage, there is no
analog at all.
Saddam and his generals are a far cry from Koba and the leaders of the
Red Army.
It matters.
Let's just wait and see. It may not be far off, since the Bushies have
erased many of their own options. I hope not.
I'll eat crow with sautéed mushrooms right here if this stubborn heroic
Iraqi resistance materializes. I remain dismissive of the whole notion,
but not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, I say, cling away. I'm
looking to the political crisis here in the "land of the free."
Comradely,
Stan
