My apologies Henry, if I sounded curmudgeonly. Like Yunus, "I am
not here on earth for strife".

Interesting things are happening among the Turkish Peace Movement
members, at least, among the members of one section of it. The
"nice guys" section, which consists of relatively well to do,
reasonably well educated, westernized and secular people.

Someone made a connection between the war and the IMF, and asked
the economists among them to propose an alternative economic
program to the government so that it can resist the US and the
IMF better.

These are important developments in my view, however small their
immediate effects may be.

When they had N30 in Turkey in 1999, there were 30 people
attending their march. Now there are tens of thoudsands in the
streets of Ankara. The US has been no different. When I attended
the June 18, 1999 demo in Boston, in front of the Fleet Bank
building, there were sixty people or so, if we don't count the
FBI agents. On February 15, 2003, there were more than 200,000
people in the street is San Francisco. It takes a while to build
a movement, especially if you don't know what you are building.

Best,
Sabri
