[A-List] the second Super Power

That Super Power is us and our internationalism.
Well said.
And not lightly.
In nature when a dominant predator like an owl threatens a large number of
potential victims, such as smaller birds, they may mob it - surround and
taunt it, trying to minimise the damage to themselves individually, but
keeping sight of one another. This can neutralise and even tire the
predator into giving up.
What we are beginning to see is that under pressure of a global movement,
some governments feel they have to respond by resisting US diktat. This is
threatening to stall and divert Bush's strategy for world hegemony.
While the markets might not object to a quick victory, they dislike
uncertainty. They are beginning to blame Bush for the downturn since his
"axis of evil" speech. Probably unfairly. And let us not overstate what is
happening. This is a mass global democratic movement which is starting to
have an impact, but admittedly through one section of the finance
capitalism playing off against another. Global finance capitalism basically
wants more stability than the crude hegemonistic antics of the Bush clique.
But longer term the power of the global movement and its internationalism
is what is important.
And the events in Turkey yesterday, were one of the most exciting
breakthroughs in that process. We cannot be sure of how events will unfold,
but my guess is it will be written up in the history books as the decisive
turning point.
