Today, after the Friday prayer, about 1,000 Islamists hold a
rally in Beyazit Square in Istanbul shouting: "To hell with
Tayyip (1)".

"Allah-u Akbar", "Imperialist USA", "No to War", "We are not
going to be American Soldiers" were among the slogans they
shouted. Among the banners they hanged on the walls of the
Beyazit Mosque were "All Moslem peoples are brothers(2)", "Don't
be a part of savagery", "Don't be afraid of America, Be afraid of
God" and they carried the banner: " Global Intifada Against the
US Hegemony (3)".

I find the above event very important. Until recently Islamists
have kept quiet since "their" party was in power but now they are
raising their voices too.

Global intifada it is.

(1) Tayyip is Tayyip Erdogan, the president of the ruling Justice
and Development Party.

(2) In Turkish, there is just one word to mean both sister and
brother: kardes. It is the condensed from of "karinda es" and
means the ones who shared the same womb.

(3) It is possible that they follow the World Systems People and
I am not kidding. Many former leftists now joined the ranks of
Islamists and they follow the left literature.
