[A-List] Third World Voice (was Return to an old standard)

A few random excerpts from Gary's posts:

> And, surprise, I don't think it's that bad an
> idea to have a world dominated and united under
> the Amercian style of democracy.

> Wealth tends to accumulate to those who know how
> to accumulate it.

> No, the hegemony did not start out exploitative.

> When Thailand outbid the Philippines for a General
> Motors plant, giving a 10 year tax free incentive,
> it was their choice to be exploited.

Hi Gary,

I have been away from the net for a while because of a few fast
approaching deadlines and I still don't have much time to spend
here in these days. I just read your posts and remembered an
e-mail with the above subject line, that is, Third World Voice, I
saw in 1999.

I have been actively involved in this so-called
"antiglobalization" movement and spent much time on many related
organizational lists with the intention of offering some small
help to the "antiglobalizationists" back home so that they have a
link to the broader movement. It was one of those N30
organization lists before Seattle and a heated debate among some
first world activists had been going on. Then a very hostile
message, "Third World Voice" message I mentioned above, came to
the list. It was an Indian fellow writing from India.

After reading your posts, I now know how exactly he must have
felt when he wrote that hostile message.

Best,

Sabri

Me say war

What life has taught me
I would like to share with
Those who want to learn...

Until the philosophy which hold one race
Superior and another inferior
Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned
Everywhere is war, me say war

That until there are no longer first class
And second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man's skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes
Me say war

That until the basic human rights are equally
Guaranteed to all, without regard to race
Dis a war

That until that day
The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion
To be persued, but never attained
Now everywhere is war, war

And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes
that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique,
South Africa sub-human bondage
Have been toppled, utterly destroyed
Well, everywhere is war, me say war

War in the east, war in the west
War up north, war down south
War, war, rumours of war

And until that day, the African continent
Will not know peace, we Africans will fight
We find it necessary and we know we shall win
As we are confident in the victory

Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil
Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil

Bob Marley, (based on a Haile Selassie speech to the League of
Nations)
