[A-List] UK state: political realignment
Right now it doesn't look very promising for this New Party, despite its
staking out of political ground somewhere between New Labour and
Thatcherism -- and they must have needed an electronic microscope for that.
So far they have no one famous to back them -- they prefer to concentrate on
policies, not personalities, or so they say. For a flavour of those, you can
check out their web site at

My provisional verdict on this outfit is that it is doomed, barring a major
domestic crisis and/or some very high profile recruits who can give it a
sheen of competence.
So why bother? Who gains from this kind of pointless profligacy? If the NPB
is out to attract disillusioned Conservative Party voters, then it is hardly
going to dent either New Labour or the Liberals. But what if that's the
point? What if Tony and the successor generation to Roy Jenkins achieve
their goal of political realignment by killing off the Conservative Party
once and for all, thereby installing the Liberal Democrats as HM Opposition
and New Labour as the hegemonic state party, occasionally disciplined by
LibDem triumphs? Keep an eye open for conspiracy-theorising by Norman
Tebbit, who has already accused MI6 of being involved in the UK Independence
Party.
