Re: [A-List] Errors sow new doubts for biotech
>>Yesterday, after stuffing myself with a pretty traditional Xmas dinner, I
took my new grandson, Jaydin, into the little bedroom we've converted into
our "movie room" (there's a couch and a VCR). He was 6 days old, so I
figured it was time for him to see a good dinosaur movie... Jurassic Park.
He was pretty unimpressed, and in fact fell asleep as the first human
victim was being consumed by a Velociraptor. He'd just knocked off two
bottles and could have slept through the installation of a new roof. But I
watched it. I've seen that movie a lot. It's one of my favorites. The
best lines are from Jeff Goldblum's character, Dr. Malcolm, the chaos
theorist, who tells them, "Genetic power's the most awesome force the world
has ever seen, but you wield it like a kid who's found his dad's gun." I
guess that's why this story (below) jumps out at me. People have been
warning for years that Monsanto and others (There's a Biotech Center not
six miles from my house, at the Research Triangle Park) were making
Franken-foods, only to be called Luddite Neanderthals for their trouble.
Well, the problems are peaking out like an iceberg now, and - once again -
the Luddite Neanderthals turn out to have been right. Dr. Malcolm could be
the one to tell them, "The lack of humility before nature that's being
displayed here staggers me." -SG] <<
Comments:
I had actually forgotten my childhood fascination with dinosaurs. This thing about genetics is awesome. Here the power of capital is exposed for what it is - lust for profit. The creation and production of "seeds" to grow crops, which lack the ability to spontaneously reproduce, can be understood by 90% of the American peoples as evil.
A vast segment of our diverse peoples think things out in the framework of the biblical text. I am of course of Christian heritage but a hard-core materialist to the extreme. My "extreme" is framed in the context of my limited understanding of the dialectic of Marx, as Engels articulates it. This is so because Marx articulated the applied dialectic as exposition.
What does the bible say about "Franken food?"
Genesis 1: 29
"And God went on to say: 'Here I have given to you all vegetables bearing seed which is on the surface of the whole earth and every tree on which there is the fruit of a tree bearing seed. To you let it serve as food."
This quote is taken from the Jehovah Bible, which is my mother's old text. I use it to pay homage to my mother.
The King James Version of the Bible states the same passage this way:
Genesis 1:29
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed: "to you it shall be for meat."
Corporations are not God and seek to replace God for money. "I have given to you fruits that have the capacity to reproduce themselves spontaneously by placing within the produce a specific genetic quality of reproduction!" This is the meaning I have always derived from the passages above.
Who gave the corporations the power to produced and place upon the earth a seed that cannot self reproduce?
I assert that the Old Testament Bible is a more than less materialist document. The form of materialism changes with every epoch making change in the means of production - science. Science does not describe anything. Stated another way, the power of critical observation describes and science unravels the law system internal to various matter forms.
Franken foods?
This is not simply a question of capital and profit lust but evil.
These mutherf**ker's evil man. They are chemical scientist of the alchemist potions. They are anti-life . . . man. To hell with someone else professed doctrine of Marx. Marx standpoint was materialism and his form of inquiry was the method of dialectics. End of story.
The American people can understand this in the most elementary terms. It is often "the revolutionaries" who do not understand and limit the struggle to conform to our individual doctrine. Man in his genetic fundamentality is described in the sacred text, based on a form of materialist that expressed an ancient mode of production. This description is accurate but outdated according to the modern advance of science - the unraveling of law systems governing a process.
Support for Franken Food runs counter to the Bible and common sense, but we don't know how to articulate common sense from revolutionary perspective. The Old Testament Bible is not understood as a materialist document. This is not my individual interpretation of words. Read what the words above mean to you or anyone else.
A fruit without self-reproducing seeds is the epitome of blasphemy and anti-man's life force. The peoples are scared to death of these criminal scientists and hate them intuitively.
If the chemical scientist really want to help, then reproduce fruits with seeds that reproduce themselves so that everyone on eat can eat - free, or rather on God.
