Re: [A-List] Bushfeld's Nukes

Thanks very much, Stan.  After I spent some more time thinking about Debka's
report yesterday, I decided it was hysterical misinformation -- so I was glad to
read what someone with expertise in these matters had to say this a.m.  BTW,
very nice website, well-organized and informative.  A pity no archives are up
yet, but I bookmarked it and will return to read the magazine issues.  Thanks
again. -A.

I don't assign a shred of credibility to Debka, and I don't believe Iraq has any credible weapons production capacity any longer.  Smoke and mirrors, big time.

Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, however, have repeatedly stated their willingness to employ small tactical nukes, especially the burrowing variety (bunker busters).  They are not needed to assure tactical victory.  I think they just want to lift the taboo to increase their capacity to intimidate generally.  That's why Rummy loves his little unmanned killer drone thangs.

On the subject of what US troops are exposed to, I am working on a bit of research to do an article on how few will be US combat casualties in Iraq, and how many were the casualties in '91 from the toxic cocktail of atomized DU, permethrin in the uniforms, chemical compounds used to keep down the dust in bases, formaldihyde (sp) from overheating and recooling aspartame drinks, multiple innoculations, and the explosive destruction of organophosphate stockpiles with no downwind warning s to troops.  Nukes, even little bitty ones, as far as I can tell, still bombard nearby atoms with neutrons and light them up with alpha, beta, gamma, positron, etc, radiation, whereupon those particles take journeys on the air and soil, then migrate into the food, clothes, and lungs of people without discriminating their targets based on which uniform they wear.

Here's a piece on US military bullying:
