Dear Mawar Merah,

Thanks for the article from The Guardian about the new trend to the left in
South America. I have already read the piece as it was produced in 'The
Dawn' Karachi.

The left-ward trend is not limited to South Ameria alone. It is the same in
other parts of the world as well. Like in case of Pakistan in the elections
on October 10, Islamist group polled substantially more votes than ever.
Especially in the North West Frontier Province the Mutahidda Majlis-e-Amal
[United Council for Action] an alliance of six religio-political parties
have formed a government by themselves and in coalition with the ruling PML
(Q) in another province of Baluchistan.

The rural poor and deprived people have voted for them hoping to bring about
a change not only in socio-economic areas but also to be relieved of the US
hegemony in the region.

I feel if we can manage a kind of understanding between the left and Islamic
groups we may bring about a quicker change for the better.

We can discuss the issue later.
