[A-List] Run-away government? Nope.
From time to time, strange things happen in this universe we live in.
For instance, now I find myself in disagreement with Henry Liu. But
I believe we have already had this same disagreement, so that at
least some consistency appears in this deviation of the general rules
of motion of the planets and galaxies.
Writing on Martinet's text, Henry adds that "The problem of a run-
away government theme, as had been frequently invoked during the
Vienam War was that it presupposes that the US government, its
people, its culture, its system etc, were fundamentally good and the
government was just temporarily taken over by sinister elements. The
possibility exists that the US system at its best, run by its best
and brightest, was inherently evil, just like the British empire was
evil, while within it there were honorable men and women who
sincerely believed that were doing good. US policy was and is a
reflection of the will of the majority of its citizens and that will
is often onerous. The government propaganda machine is very
sophisticated and subliminally effective. It needs no conspiracy to
manipluate the public which is already it the government's pocket."
The fact that the general framework of American life is, so to say,
potentially or actually evil, does not mean that the American people
are a bloodthirsty gang of criminals who consciously hate anything
slightly darker-skinned than themselves (British people, by contrast,
have sometimes tended to fit this pattern quite smoothly, not to
speak of the very cultured French!).
It is a mistake to play down the necessity of a huge ideological work
on the American population by the ruling classes. From his many
contributions to the issue, I have come to the conclussion that even
Henry understands the contradiction between the formal education
whereby average Americans are drilled into the idea that they are the
greatest example of democracy (which cannot be elliminated without
elliminating something of the core beliefs and consciousness of the
American [Imperialist] Nation), on one side, and the dire necessities
of keeping a global empire working for good, on the other.
It would not be the first time a Reichstag Fire is used in the USA.
Remember the Tonkin Gulf incident, the blasting of the Maine, the
Pearl Harbor incident, the Alamo incident, even the "Nazi-scientists"-
in-Argentina campaign...
You don't need to have the whole American state working on the
preparation of the coup. You just and simply need to provide some
untidiness and slow motion in military action and, presto!
Simply be morose in scrambling fighters. That's all that's needed.
And this, we had. The guy responsible for this terrible mistake has
not been demoted, he has been promoted instead. Whether we accept
the conspiracy theory or not, we cannot discard it on the ground that
the theory speaks of a government and keeps a social system safe. Not
at all. What we have is a run-away ruling class, and of course this
is what has to be explained.
No "run-away government theory" at all. This is the _actual_
government of the American bourgeoisie. These plots are not plots of
individuals. They are class devices which seek to keep people's minds
flatly glued to the needs of American imperialism.
