[A-List] Åslund on "transition"
Just landed on my desk is the title, "Building Capitalism: The
Transformation of the Former Soviet Bloc" by Anders Åslund (Cambridge UP,
2002).
The book comes with praise from a stellar list of names: Stanley Fischer,
Yegor Gaidar, George Soros, and Leszek Balcerowicz.
Apparently Åslund still works as a consultant to economies "in transition",
specifically that of Kyrgyzstan. He is also a senior associate at the
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, whence our old favourite Anatol
Lieven comes. Has anyone here had the good fortune to peruse Anders' musings
on a decade well spent?
