Well, I can't judge Fisk's knowledge of Turkish politics, but some of his
observations made sense to me. For example, Fisk was saying that the rise of
AKP was not simply an issue of anti-Americanism; it was also a response to
the failure of centrist parties to handle Turkey's main
problems--corruption, socio-economic inequalities, economic crisis, US/IMF
dictates, etc. That AKP can solve these problems, was not implied, of course

Regarding the nature of AKP, it is a mainstream, pro-system party. Fisk
charecterizes them as "christian democracts" of Islam. This is very clear in
party's declerations about where it stands with respect to US war in Iraq
and EU policy.

Anyhow, Robert Fisk's analysis seemed ok to me, if not perfect.
