Re: [A-List] David Corn: Liberal Red-baiter

A few years back I went to a demo in San Francisco. It was Against the
Contract On America. There were a lot of marchers for various causes
with their signs, banners and costumes. In the aggregate, they
represented a large, anti-reactionary movement. Also present were
hawkers of party papers representing several red organizations. I met
several people I knew in the march and then later at the rally. I was
even shouted at by a cabbie who turned out to be an old friend from
college. Long time no see.

The thing I remember most was how so many people ignored or griped about
the speakers. But it wasn't because they were too red or rad. It's
because the demo seemed to have been hijacked by Democrats intent on
furthering their election hopes, or groups who had hitched their wagon
to that ass of a party. But nobody who complained about the speakers
told me they regretted showing up. "Great crowd!" I heard. "Yeah, man,
fantastic turnout!"

If David Corn was really into stopping the war, he'd have been more
dedicated to celebrating the people who came out to do just that, i.e.,
the announced purpose for the demo, instead of criticizing their motives
or those of the few organizers and speakers. If he's had any experience
with democratic protest he should know that by now.
