Re: [A-List] Tragedy on the docks: White House Warns of Economic Harm
This is being treated as if it were a strike here by the media, when of
course it's a lockout. The Bushists would like to shift blame onto the
workers.
This is VERY significant. The ILWU has been among the most militant and
internationally connected unions in the US for some time, and the
transnational solidarity they exercised in response to the racist police
riot and arrest of the Charleston Five brought a cross-section of
labor-Black liberationist-socialist forces together in the heart of Sunbelt
reaction, South Carolina. Dockworkers are in a unique strategic position,
as the rotting food on the West Coast is showing us. Support for the West
Coast ILWU will be critical in the coming weeks.
Reminder to yanks... DC on October 26th. Spread the word, and organize the
transportation.
There's a whiff of something in the air.
