G'day Mac,

Whilst hoping not to invite a long debate on the meaning of 'zionist'
(and whilst most definitely hoping to avoid aching to-and-fros on
political correctness), I'd point out the word covers a very broad
spectrum of sentiments and dispositions.  Daniel Davies brought that up
on his (exceptionally worthwhile) blog the other day - he's opting for
'Likkudist' for the word that'll do the job.  At any rate, I can imagine
nationhood is as important to Israelis as it is to Palestinians.  Unless
it can be established that all who would call themselves 'Zionist'
favour the Bibi/Sharon strategies of invasive Oslo-repudiating
settlement/military occupation/murderous bullets-against-stones
expansionism, I think we should be very careful here.  Out of fairness
as much as political judiciousness.
