Gentlemen,

A link previously sent to the list by Jim (the Bush speechmaker) is now,
I am told, being jammed by whomsoever. There were several links in the
family values page that did not work when I tried it yesterday, and it
is possible that whenever this sort of material comes out the
information management unit touted so loudly by Rumsfeld last year is
devoting considerable resources simply to stamp these things out. It's
also possible that Jim is still able to get the family values page
because it's in his cache already. I can still access it. Alternatively
some ISPs may be deliberately filtering their services -- I have heard
of one US company, via its British subsidiary, blocking access to the
Bush speechmaker.

On the subject of internet censorship and monitoring check out the IT
pull-out in this Wednesday's Financial Times, in which a fairly
sanitised portrait of the state of the "art" in company email monitoring
software, etc., is featured. It's still enough to cause concern.

There has also been a noticeable increase in the quantity of African
"419" spam, in which a relative of some dead dictator promises to give
you a cut of X million dollars if you give them your bank details.
Additionally we keep getting hit with offers of anti-virus patches
(WormKlez immunity), "a new game", etc. The spam filters at Utah prevent
this stuff from getting through but it makes the job of administration
more of a nuisance than it need be. I wonder, incidentally, how long
before the significant resources at Utah themselves come under attack
from the Daniel Pipes/Lynne Cheney brigade.

Good to hear from you. I wanted to thank you and Michael for not putting
out
my polemic on Kathleen when it was first sent. I was deep in grief and
rage
and could have possibly--not likely but possibly--given the forces of
darkness some room to launch harassing lawsuits etc.

Maybe it is a browser thing. This url is taking me right to the site
