Interesting point. Their stance towards the EU has to be a contradiction in
view of the widespread popular discontent in most European countries with
the present (capitalist) configuration of Europe.
While Blair is clearly preparing for an attempt on British entry to the
euro, he has just made a play again of calling for more reforms, including
the need for a more competitive economy. This is consistent with
neo-liberal voices of finance capital within Europe, such as Deutsche Bank
which is now going to be lead by a non-German (Swiss) finance capitalist.
