[A-List] Competing and collaborating imperialisms

Julio

The list is just too long...

Swedish imperialism is an interesting research question, however. Under
various headings, most often "The Policy Network", I have tried to
explore some ways in which Swedish interests are being furthered within
and beyond the European Union, in alliance with British and German
interests. Of course each of these are separate and competing, as
illustrated by Britain's pragmatic alliances with Spain and Italy over
the issue of labour reform, for example. In this, as in other things, I
am constantly learning. There is no question that US imperialism, as the
dominant hegemonic power, sets constraints within which sub-imperialisms
operate, and within these, there is a hierarchy of imperialisms,
beginning with Britain/France, followed by Germany, and then an even
more debatable list in declining order of importance, and which is
subject to change. For example, how long before British and French
imperialism are overtaken by German imperialism, or, indeed, has this
already happened? Lots of interesting questions for A-listers to grapple
with, I think.

Also, your point regarding how similar they all look from the point of
view of the exploited is not only valid but requires further, detailed,
and regular elaboration. Please feel free to use this forum to that end.

Best,

Michael
