I don't think I said I wanted a British defeat, I said I opposed the war,
and the difference is not just semantic. As for praying for exocets, I
wouldn't wish that fate on any mariner (I worked as a seaman on British
merchant ships in my youth and I cannot imagine anything more ghastly than
to be hit by a missile.) I don't think Galtieri was worth supporting. In
any case, revolutionary defeatism as a policy surely never embraces a
desire for victory by the enemy.
In general, and this remark is not directed at anyone in particular, I hope
to avoid the personalising of issues on this list. Sometimes that is not
possible but it is almost always best avoided. I am grateful for the
contributions of everyone here.
