Since we are down to "guessing wildly", here is my entry. The US, plus its more forward thinking allies, knowing something of the state of the worlds' oil reserves, and a good bit about the global crisis of capital nicely underway; and perhaps feeling that they , during the 90's, have under-achieved in taking full advantage of the fall of the Soviet Union, decide that the time has come to change the world. Something on the world-historical level of Adi's attempt on the Soviet Union. One quick series of moves, and the whole world will have to apply to them for everything from jet fuel to kerosene.Chinas' future looked after, the EU reminded of basics, Russia boxed....The UN re-trained as the cleaning lady... They might also have considered the growing global challenge to their unworkable system, and thought some about the inconveniences in their Constitution, (the stuff about trials, proof and whatnot.)Maybe how to get Congress to loot Social Security to buy weapons. They had some major assets, of course. The Clinton years weren't a complete loss, several new carrier groups, smart bombs, CNN, nice start on amending international law......And, maybe the key to the mix, Al-Quaida. This organization has served the Empire well since they facilitated it: the Soviets bled and beat, the Balkans made Capital-friendly,(Macedonia was invaded in August(!) by an "army" which has big logistics and personnel from Osamas' band of Islamic heroes). All of these services paid for by Saudi money, including some princely petrodollars. And the rocky patch in the middle, the embassy bombings, produced a reaction that is quite curious.... A few cruise missiles at an empty camp, and the destruction of an un-licensed generic drug manufacturer in Sudan. That Clinton was a real wus. Osama becomes a media figure in America....the face of evil, the personification of un-reasoning, fanatical Islam.("Save image as....") This episode does not prevent further co-operation, however, nor does it induce America to moderate its opposition to Moscow's war in Chechnya.....against Wahhabi organizations allied to .....of course, Osama bin-Laden.CIA couldn't do anything about him.Not enough money! Then in July, Osama gets dialysis from the American Hospital in Dubai, and a box of chocolates instead of a bullet from the CIA Station chief there.....this after the US, having made him Americas' most wanted, have turned down an offer to have him extradited from Sudan...("...who knew...?") Back to Washington in September, where the boys are trying to figure out how to secure the support of the American people for their plan to cancel the UN charter, the Bill of Rights, and the tickets of oil-patch regimes.....Tough sell, cold. Just then, Rumsfeld, staring disconsolately out the window, sees salvation approaching in the form of a Boeing 727..... Problem solved. And in the Mid-East, a day or two of jubilation, overtaken by a more sober assessment. "....Oh shit, and us without an air force..." Osamas' War...and as you have rightly said, it was inevitable.Of course, we don't know how the movie ends yet, but this opening scene is as good as it could be for the owners of the world. However you slice it , Osamas last production is even more useful to the Great Satan than the stellar service he has rendered in the recent past....No doubt this is coincidence, blowback, the law of UN-intended consequences.... And the man who presumably aimed at this result, hoping for a general conflagration in the Muslim world, denies the act. Most of the Arab street believes that he was not responsible. Maybe because they have the same difficulty with the scenario that many of us have....namely trying to see how anyone benefits from 9/11 except their enemies. Well. I guess you need a certain amount of luck to rule the world. Bob |
